In her 92nd year, Anna Barbara Tracey, daughter of the late Thomas James Tracey and Patricia Frances O'Leary. Born at home in Alliston on January 24, 1927, Anna passed away October 10, 2018. Beloved wife of 50 years to the late George Green (1997). Dearest mother of Barbara Breda (Yves), Larry Green (Stephanie) and Tom Green (Kelly). Fond grandmother of Steve Breda (Diana), Denis Breda (Diane Vautour), Jamie Green, Meagan Green (Jeremy), Katelynn Green and Matthew Green. Great grandmother of Maridina and Nico Breda, Sylvie Vautour Breda and Logan McDonell. Sister of Lois Steele (late Bruce),Harold Tracey (Theresa).
Anna began her teaching career in 1944 at a one room school outside Maynooth, Ontario. In 1951 she accepted a teaching position at Camp Borden and remained there until her retirement in 1983. Over the years, Mrs. Green provided loving support to her students, whose parents represented Canada in peacekeeping missions around the world. Anna was both teacher and student as she spent many years taking courses offered by the Ministry of Education, as well as studying for her B.A. and M. ED. degrees. Anna retired as a vice-principal and guidance counselor, having received the Olive Diefenbaker Award of excellence in guidance and counselling.
In retirement, Anna was a tireless volunteer. She was a long time member of the SMH Women's Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and the Catholic Women's League. She and George also volunteered on many election campaigns, both federal and provincial. Anna was a participating member of the local Retired Teachers Organization. From her youth, Anna was a devoted member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, participating in many activities and organizations.
Everyday, Anna enjoyed her newspaper, listening to and watching the news and doing her crosswords. Reading was a favourite activity, especially in her garden during the summer. Her pies and sweet treats highlighted many family dinners.
Anna was an amazing role model for her family and all who met her. She is fondly remembered by her extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held at Drury Funeral Centre 519 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2 - 4 p.m.Funeral mass will e held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 190 King St. S., Alliston on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
Interment St. Paul's Cemetery.
