Jerome Michael (Jerry) Dinneen

Jerome Michael (Jerry) Dinneen passed away peacefully in his 74th year after a well fought and stubborn battle with COPD. Jerry leaves his wife of 50 years Donna (Kizema), and sons Mat (Ella), Mark (Ramona), and Marty (Meghan), along with grandchildren Mya, Graydon, Madison, Mackenzie, and Olivia. Jerry also leaves his siblings Patrick (Jane), Kathleen, Kevin (Joyce), Ambrose, Rita (Rick), and sister-in-law Ruby (Don). Of special note, he will also be missed by his Aunt Beatrice O’Donnell, numerous cousins in Canada, Ireland, England, and the United States and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was pre-deceased by his parents Austin (1989) and Peggy (1984)and sisters Carol Ann (1948) and Elaine (2017).

Jerry was raised in the Arthur Township and Mt. Forest area and never forgot his roots and rural upbringing. After brief stops in Northern Ontario and Toronto, he eventually settled in the Alliston area. Jerry had a rewarding career as a heavy duty mechanic, construction equipment salesman and business owner, shipping and receiving manager, and finally in retirement, he operated a small equipment repair business.

Contributing to the community was very important to Jerry. Along with being a founding member of the Rosemont Lions Club, he spent countless hours leading the construction and ongoing maintenance of the outdoor hockey rink and the Lloyd Armstrong Memorial baseball diamond in Rosemont where hundreds of children and adults enjoyed endless hours of fun. Additionally, Jerry played a central role in the annual Christmas Hamper drive for both the Rosemont and Alliston Lions Clubs. For almost fifty years, Jerry has been an active member of the North Adjala Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was involved in leading the collection plate, general maintenance, and was a member of the Cemetery Board.

Visitation will be held at Drury Funeral Centre 519 Victoria St. E, Alliston on Thursday, July 23, from 4pm – 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church 190 King St. E., Alliston on Friday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Adjala.

If so desired, donations in Jerry’s name may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery and Matthews House Hospice.

To Donna and the boys,

I have so many fond memories of growing up with your family. We have been neighbours for nearly 44 years and my entire life has been grounded with your presence. Jerome was such a figure from my childhood, from tending to our local ice rink, building a ball field next to your house, to running the crown and anchor at the Rosemont Cider Festival! These are some of my fondest memories. I can't really express how formative these experiences were on my life and upbringing. All I can say is that Jerome was a model for how a man should treat his fellow citizens and his community. In retrospect, I learned so much from him, and I am grateful for having him, and all of you in my life.

May he rest in peace,

Andrew, Michelle, Jada & Clarke Needles
