Alexander Morrey Lawrence

Born October 4, 1924 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Alexander Morrey Lawrence was truly one of a kind. Full of energy, creativity and an endless curiosity, he lived an extraordinary life full of adventure and love right up to the very end. Morrey is survived by his wife Susan, sister Gerdine, children Robbie, Linda, Guy, Scott and Cory, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A serial entrepreneur for most of his life, he was always thinking outside the box with a head full of what seemed like too many ideas for one brain. A man of many talents he focused full time on his art during his later years creating a stockpile of paintings and sculptures, many of which he shared with family and friends. Being creative, taking chances, appreciating nature and never having time to be bored were of upmost importance in his life. His smile and easy laugh will be greatly missed. Donations in Morrey’s honour can be made to Matthew’s House Hospice - https://www.matthewshousehospice.ca/

It was an honour to have Morrey become a part of our family! We truly loved being with him especially last Christmas with the whole family. He lived life to the fullest with grace, creativity, curiosity about everything and everyone. We were lucky to have known him and he will be missed us all.
With love, Gary and Julia Rowell

The wooden cut out sign on the fireplace outside Morrey's workshop in Cedar Mills read "Keep The Fire", and he did just that. Morrey was a warm bright spark in the universe and his light will never be diminished. His energy and zest for life were fascinating and he passed his sense of wonder on to everyone around him. We will never forget his legendary bone crushing handshake and welcoming smile.
Thanks for always making us feel like a part of the family.
Love Darren, Adrianne and Adelaide

I feel that it was impossible to not get caught up and infected by his curiosity, personality and smile. One of the few and maybe first times we got to spend together found us in his basement looking through newspaper clippings that were saved for us. I believe his intentions were; these may be the seeds that would spark some creativity for us. It always felt like he was in on whatever nonsense we were up to or maybe even leading and encouraging it at times. His energy was incredible. He will be missed. My thoughts and condolences are with Cory, Scott and the whole Lawrence family. - Kerry

Sending love and condolences to the Lawrence family. I always loved hearing about, and sometimes even having the privilege of seeing Morrey’s creativity in action. He has left this world a whole lot more interesting and way cooler than it ever could have been without him in it, and I feel lucky to have known him. I know the stars are shining brighter now. xo Carole
